The NCAA Transfer Portal is a place of opportunity for new head coach Chris Beard and the Texas basketball program so far this offseason. A spring and early summer full of roster attrition and coaching changes for the Texas men’s hoops program came to a head last in April and May. But the activity in the transfer portal and with the coaching staff has largely calmed down in the month of June, as most would expect.

Beard and the Longhorns have added more than five names out of the transfer portal this offseason that will largely help to fill out a rotation that is going to look a lot different heading into next season. A good portion of these additions to the roster out of the transfer portal are also likely to be in the starting five for Beard next season.

Sources of more transfers for Texas basketball this offseason

Texas looks to firmly be headed in the right direction under Beard’s direction in 2021. And although there were a plethora of transfer portal additions that already look to make a big impact out of the gates heading into next season, could there still more movement in the portal on the way for Beard?

The latest addition out of the portal for Beard and the Longhorns this offseason came earlier this month in the form of the former UMass Minutemen star sophomore center Tre Mitchell. But more additions out of the portal could be on the way if media and fan discussions of late are any indication.

And one program that Texas could draw from that had a lot of players enter the portal of late is the LSU Tigers. Here’s a look into three former LSU players that Texas could target in the portal at this point of the offseason.
