The newest addition to the rotation for the Longhorns this offseason came in the form of the former UMass Minutemen star sophomore center Tre Mitchell. There are not many more accomplished players that the Longhorns could get out of the transfer portal this offseason than Mitchell.

Texas got a two-time All-Atlantic-10 Team selection, 2019-20 A-10 All-Freshman Team, and A-10 Newcomer of the Year awards just in the past two seasons at UMass. And more accolades could be on the way for the 6-foot-9 and 240-pound versatile big man Mitchell.

Mitchell already looks to be one of the more multiple two-way big men in the Big 12. That just tends to lead to NBA adaptability. Texas is also no stranger to turning bigs into NBA-caliber talents on a regular basis. Just in the past six years, Texas churned out the likes of Mo Bamba, Jarrett Allen, Jaxson Hayes, Kai Jones, and Greg Brown to the next level.

Mitchell is a budding defender, a solid shooter from deep, and can distribute the ball well from the paint. During his sophomore campaign, Mitchell averaged 18.8 points per game, 7.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.5 blocks. And he shot 51.9 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 76.8 percent from the free-throw line.

Any player that registered an 8.3 box plus/minus, 26.8 player efficiency rating, and 61.3 true shooting percentage as a big man should have an NBA future ahead of him.
