With Texas getting their second running back commit in the 2022 class to start out the week, and the dead period, the importance of getting the four-star Burges product and El Paso, TX, native Tavorus Jones becomes less notable. Since Texas now has the running back position sealed up in the 2022 class, it does look like Jones is headed elsewhere.

In fact, Texas was off Jones’ radar for a good while now. With Sark, running backs coach Stan Drayton, and the Longhorns prioritizing other prospects at this position, Jones fell off the team’s radar too. Texas looked to prioritize the likes of four-star running back TreVonte’ Citizen, three-star DeAnthony Gatson, and Miller during the month of June.

That leaves what looks to be a top three of the Penn State Nittany Lions, Alabama, and Mizzou Tigers for Jones’ July 2 decision date. But since Mizzou got the final official visit with Jones during the month of June, the writing is on the wall that the Tigers will get his commitment heading into the weekend.

Jones is one of the higher-rated running backs that remains uncommitted, at least for another couple of days. Texas did have him as one of their top running back targets just after the turn of the calendar year, but the contact with the coaching staff seems to have diminished since visits started back up last month.
