Derrick Brown, Edge Rusher

One of the prospects that I can’t seem to stop talking about for the past few weeks is the four-star Texas High 6-foot-3 and 210-pound edge rusher Derrick Brown. But it’s hard to understate the importance of getting someone like Brown in the Longhorns 2022 class. Given there are not many other options at this spot on the board for the Longhorns in-state, Brown is a must for this group.

Brown had plenty of momentum heading in favor of the Longhorns following a key June 4 official visit to Austin. Texas looked like they could really be zoning in on a commitment from Brown soon after the resumption of the dead period if they hit on that visit with him early last month. But that didn’t come to fruition early in July.

The Texarkana, TX, native Brown actually wound up pushing back his decision date later in July than originally planned. It’s hard to tell exactly what that means for Texas, but that could be a good thing if they get at least one more visit on the books with Brown before fall camp begins.

At the moment, it does look like Texas will get another visit from Brown before fall camp comes to be. He does also have one official visit on the books with the Oklahoma Sooners for September. That is interesting since Brown announced his two finalist schools to be Texas and the Baylor Bears last week.

New co-defensive coordinators/linebackers coaches Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate really need to come through eventually with a commitment from Brown, which still looks likely at this point.
