We’ve reached a point of the offseason for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class where a few key decisions could really make or break this group among the best classes in the entire country. If Texas gets some decisions to fall in their favor before the conclusion of the summer months, then this 2022 class could very well be one of the best in the nation.

But a few missteps and the Longhorns 2022 class could fall out of contention to even get the top spot in the Big 12. New head coach Steve Sarkisian hit the ground running out of the gates after his initial hiring back on Jan. 2. Sark replaced former Texas head coach Tom Herman and didn’t waste any time to see the results pour in for the 2022 and 2023 recruiting classes.

As visit season came back, though, things started to unravel a bit for Sark and the Longhorns. Texas lost a key commitment from five-star El Campo running back Rueben Owens in the 2023 class last month. And another key miss came about last weekend with five-star Summer Creek offensive tackle Kelvin Banks taking his talents to join the Oregon Ducks.

The volatility that exists for Sark and the Longhorns on the recruiting trail is something that will put their response to the test for the rest of the summer months. How will Sark and this coaching staff respond to this first set of volatile events on the trail this summer?

We do need to understand which prospects Texas is facing an uphill battle with this summer before officially evaluating how Sark and his coaching staff are doing on the recruiting trail. Here’s a look into four prospects Texas is losing interest from at the wrong time in the month of July.
