If there is one Longhorns player that is just brimming with potential that Sark and his staff need to capitalize on this fall (if he stays healthy at least) is the redshirt sophomore wide receiver Jordan Whittington. There are very few wideouts around the Big 12 that have as much untapped potential as the former five-star recruit Whittington.

Assuming Whittington is able to stay healthy throughout at least most of the regular season, it’s almost impossible for his production not to rise by a sizable amount. In just six games played in the last two years, Whittington registered 223 receiving yards on 23 catches (9.7 yards per catch), and no receiving touchdowns.

The lone career touchdown for Whittington came in the rushing game, where he has 50 yards under his belt and one score.

Whittington is going to be a very multiple weapon at the skill positions that Sark can use this fall. There might not be a single more elusive and agile weapon that he has in the receiving corps. And that speed is something that Whittington has showed in bits and pieces that he can use to beat opposing defenders sideline-to-sideline, off the first cut, or in the open field by way of the passing game.

That level of versatility is hard to overlook from a player that has as much raw talent as Whittington. He has the ability to beat multiple defenders in the open field, showed good hands and reliable route running during his time at Cuero High School, and can make plays all over the place on offense.

If he is able to stay healthy this fall, Whittington should be able to easily eclipse 700 or 800 total yards from scrimmage, and get north of five total touchdowns depending on the frequency of red zone touches.
