There are multiple reasons why Longhorns fans should be excited about what’s to come from the star sophomore running back and former elite five-star recruit Bijan Robinson this season. Texas has a very strong backfield brewing this year, but none of their weapons will be more potent and dangerous than Bijan.

In all but about two or three games last season, Robinson was a really good blocker in the passing game for Texas. And that should only continue to improve for Robinson as he gets another year to learn the pass blocking schemes and techniques at this level. He will also be blocking in the backfield for a more elusive quarterback this fall in all likelihood with redshirt junior Casey Thompson as the projected starter.

In terms of his actual production, there wasn’t really any more efficient running back around the country to cap last season than Robinson. He averaged more than 15 yards per carry and 15 yards per catch in the final two games of his true freshman campaign. And that didn’t even see Herman play Robinson as much as he should’ve in the regular season finale and Alamo Bowl.

If Robinson is able to average really anything more than seven or eight yards per carry this fall, he is likely to become one of the nation’s most productive running backs. It should be rather simple for him to reach the 1,000-rushing yard mark this fall. Challenging to reach 1,500 rushing yards, and potentially between 12-15 touchdowns is very possible for this Heisman contender.
