End of the bench

Texas could still largely be figuring out what the bench will look like at the end of it. But there are some names to watch that will round out the rotation heading into next season.

Avery Benson, SG

One of the more under-the-radar NCAA Transfer Portal additions for Beard and the Longhorns this offseason came from the former Texas Tech junior guard Avery Benson. This will be a depth addition as a third unit guard for Texas with two years of eligibility remaining.

During his three seasons playing for Texas Tech, Benson averaged 1.3 points per game, 1.0 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 0.3 steals, and 0.2 blocks. And he shot 47.8 percent from the field, 41.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 43.5 percent from the free-throw line.

Andrew Deutser, G

Getting action in just two games last season under former head coach Shaka Smart, junior guard Andrew Deutser is likely to be in the rotation once again under Beard next season. He only played in two total minutes last season, and he didn’t put up any actual stats.

Drayton Whiteside, G

With the extra year of eligibility approved for anyone that played in their sport during the 2020-21 athletic calendar, senior guard Drayton Whiteside could be returning for a fifth season at Texas. Whiteside saw minutes in a dozen games in his career to date.

Blake Nevins, G

Another senior guard that could be back for a fifth year for the Longhorns is the 6-foot-5 and 205-pound Cypress, TX, native Blake Nevins. Seeing action in eight games in his career to date, Nevins has registered six total points and two rebounds thus far.
