Power Forward: Dylan Disu

One of the true gem finds out of the transfer portal so far this offseason for Beard and the Longhorns came in the form of the former Vanderbilt Commodores standout sophomore power forward Dylan Disu. The 6-foot-9 and 220-pound former four-star recruit and Pflugerville, TX, native is a good fit with the Longhorns in a number of ways.

What will be different for Beard is the type of power forward that Disu will be for the Longhorns. Disu does tend to fit more of that common stretch big man mold. There could be an NBA role in Disu’s future if he continues to improve his game the way he did last season.

In 17 games played with the Commodores last season, Disu averaged 15.0 points per game, 9.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.2 blocks. And he shot 49.2 percent from the field, 36.9 percent from beyond the arc, and 73.6 percent from the free-throw line.

Disu ranked among the best rebounders not just in the SEC last season, but in the entire country. His defensive rebounding percentage north of 26 was also good for the top three in the SEC among players that competed in at least 15 games.

A decrease in three-point attempts actually did Disu a bit of good from his freshman to sophomore campaigns. Since Beard doesn’t tend to have lengthier floor-spacing bigs like Disu in his starting units, we might see Disu with similar rebounding numbers as last season, with around three or four attempts from downtown per game.
