One of two new Oregon Ducks commits that made this list that Texas should continue to try and flip heading into the fall is the elite five-star Summer Creek offensive tackle, Kelvin Banks. This Humble, TX, native and 6-foot-5 and 300-pound uber-talented offensive tackle still looks to be one of the most important 2022 targets remaining on the board for the Longhorns.

Banks shocked the Big 12 and state of Texas when he announced his commitment to Oregon back on July 4. It was one of multiple offensive line targets that the Ducks and head coach Mario Cristobal managed to nab out of the grasps of the likes of the rival Texas A&M Aggies and the Longhorns.

But Texas shouldn’t consider this recruitment over just yet. Texas looked to be headed in the right direction with Banks during visit season. He seemed to have a positive official visit with the Longhorns back on June 18. Oregon just happened to establish enough momentum late to surge past Texas and Texas A&M to land Banks’ commitment.

There aren’t any official visits that Banks has left. He used all five of his officials last month. That means a key next step for Texas will be trying to get Banks on the books for an unofficial visit sometime in the next two or three months, once the dead period lifts in a couple of weeks.

Putting together a solid run on the gridiron this fall will also go a long way to help the Longhorns seal the deal with key 2022 targets like Banks.
