Texas Football: 3 2022 prospects the Horns should keep trying to flip
Cameron Williams, OT
Yet another offensive tackle target of the Longhorns 2022 class that the Ducks managed to snag during the first week of the dead period is three-star Duncanville product, Cameron Williams. This towering 6-foot-5 and 360-pound native of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex looked to be trending firmly to Texas prior to his July 1 decision.
Missing out on Williams was the first real shock of the week for Sark and the Longhorns during the initial week of the dead period. Texas needs more depth in the 2022 class at the offensive tackle position, and landing Williams looked to be a good way to get that need filled.
If Texas continues to work on the relationship with Williams by staying in communication with him through the fall, then the chances of eventually flipping his commitment could rise. This will be solely on new offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood to try and accomplish this task.
Flood will have help trying to flip the commitment of Banks in the coming months, with the likes of Sark and new special teams coordinator Jeff Banks also needing to work on that connection. But Williams is likely to be less of a priority to fill a need at the offensive tackle position.
There’s a good chance that Texas could continue to try and make headway with Williams after his commitment to Oregon more than 10 days ago. Other schools that could still look to stay in the running to flip the commitment of Williams are the Oklahoma Sooners, Miami Hurricanes, and Texas Tech Red Raiders. It could be an interesting path forward if Texas still wants to pursue Williams.
