Texas Football: Predicting next 2022 commit after 4-Star S Austin Jordan

A surprising addition arrived for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the 2022 Texas football recruiting class on the afternoon of July 14 in the form of the four-star Denton-Ryan safety Austin Jordan. Texas landed the commitment of the in-state product Jordan this week when he looked destined to wind up with head coach Lincoln Riley and the rival Oklahoma Sooners.

Most indications pointed to Sark and the Longhorns falling behind the Sooners in pursuit of Jordan’s commitment in the past couple of months. What we did hear about Jordan indicated that Oklahoma had also put the most priority into the recruitment of Jordan.

The safety targets that most of the discussion revolved around for the Longhorns since the start of visit season last month were the former LSU Tigers commit and four-star West Brook product Bryce Anderson and the four-star Arizona State Sun Devils athlete commit Larry Turner-Gooden. But this is a big commitment for the Longhorns 2022 class to get a major win over a rival school on the recruiting trail for a blue-chip prospect.

Jordan also adds depth at a key spot in the secondary. He’s the most switchable defensive back commit in the mix right now, as the physical tools that Jordan brings to the table allows him to play at safety or cornerback. Jordan is a vertically gifted and all-around athletic 6-foot and 180-pound defensive back that is likely to fit a much different role than the Texas four-star safety commit Bryan Allen Jr.
