A prospect that is about to be one of the most hotly discussed among any defensive back target for the Longhorns 2022 class in the coming weeks and months is the talented and potent four-star West Brook (TX) safety and former LSU Tigers commit Bryce Anderson. Texas long looked like the frontrunner to land the commitment of Anderson throughout visit season.

But head coach Jimbo Fisher and the rival Texas A&M Aggies have greatly closed the gap with the Longhorns for Anderson in the last three or four weeks. Anderson had a successful official visit back on June 4 in College Station with the Aggies. But it also appears that new safeties coach Blake Gideon and cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph also made a positive impression on Anderson on his June 25 official visit to Austin.

It was easy to assume that Texas getting the final key official visit last month with Anderson was enough to lock in his commitment. Considering he had an original decision date set for July 4, it was about as much of a sure thing to get Anderson’s commitment as it was any one of the top Texas blue-chip targets at the time.

Yet, Texas is really going to have a battle on their hands in trying to win this commitment over the Lone Star Showdown rival Texas A&M. Once again, we have a big-time battle on the recruiting trail between Texas and Texas A&M without any actual action on the gridiron.

There might be another unofficial visit or two in store for Anderson before he makes his decision. Although, it would not be too shocking to see a decision announced from him before the fall.
