Texas Football: Predicting next 2022 commit after 4-Star S Austin Jordan
Jeremy Patton, ATH
Two of the more important three-star prospects that had key official visits with Sark and the Longhorns last month were athlete Arlis Boardingham and the Tenaha 6-foot-1 and 210-pound athlete/wide receiver Jeremy Patton. But with new special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks going full board after the top-ranked 2022 tight end prospect in the nation of late, the priority of Boardingham died down a bit in the past few weeks.
Meanwhile, Patton remains one of the top non-blue-chip prospects on the board at this point for the Longhorns 2022 class. The switchability that he brings to the table as someone that could play at multiple levels of the defense, or at wide receiver on offense, is something that Sark and this coaching staff look to value in the 2022 class.
Texas will get a lot of versatility out of a commitment like the three-star Liberty (NV) athlete Anthony Jones. The same could be said for Boardingham (if Texas winds up missing on four-star tight end Jaleel Skinner) and Patton.
It does look like the Longhorns are the clear frontrunner at this point to land the commitment of Patton. And considering the in-state product is set to announce his decision on July 31, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to mark Patton as the favorite to be the next commit in the 2022 class. The likes of Baylor and Michigan could stay in contention for Pattons, but they would have a lot of ground to make up to catch the Longhorns.
