The latest addition to the 2022 Texas football recruiting class was a big one for new head coach Steve Sarkisian, which came back on the afternoon of July 14 in the form of the four-star Denton-Ryan safety Austin Jordan. Texas landed the commitment of Jordan over the rival Oklahoma Sooners this week to bring the number of prospects in the 2022 class now up to 15.

Winning battles on the recruiting trail over the Sooners is always a big marker for the Longhorns. Oklahoma and the Texas A&M Aggies are usually the top rivals of the Longhorns on the recruiting trail, which makes a lot of sense given the geographic and Big 12 connections.

When Texas is able to win recruiting battles over Oklahoma, it signifies a building block that they can use moving forward. That can help swing the momentum in favor of Texas for future key recruiting battles over one of the biggest competing schools.

It’s not just the fanfare that makes it significant for the Longhorns to win major battles on the recruiting trail over the Sooners. There’s legitimate momentum that Texas can get that’s hard to match from other significant events on the trail.

What made the commitment of Jordan even more significant in terms of getting the edge over Oklahoma is the fact that he looked destined to take his talents to Norman. Texas should be able to capitalize on this sort of big marker on the recruiting timeline for the 2022 class to potentially get the edge over the Sooners in future commitment battles.

But, here’s a look back at four prospects that the Longhorns have now surprisingly stolen from Oklahoma in the past decade.
