Yet another attempt from the former Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback (currently with the Cleveland Browns) Baker Mayfield to troll the Texas football program appeared on social media on the morning of July 16. It seems like a regular occurrence each passing offseason, and during the week of the Red River Rivalry Game, for Baker to try and troll Texas.

Mayfield took to his Twitter timeline late this week to speak his mind on the Big 12 potentially penalizing players for throwing up the Horns down hand sign at Texas players this fall. This seemed like a certainty that Baker would give some opinion on the matter, given his track record on this subject.

Mayfield specifically noted on his tweet that “the following content might offend some viewers, the mentally weak ones of course”. And he used the hashtags “Boomer” and “ZebrasProtectingLonghorns” in this post.

Well known for throwing up the Horns down hand sign during and after his college career, Mayfield commonly throws his opinion into the discussion while trying to troll Longhorns fans. He is one of the most outspoken former Sooners on this matter.

At this point, Mayfield tends to be an afterthought for most Longhorns fans. He just tries to continue to hang around in his post-college days.

It was a notable topic at Big 12 Media Days that taunting will be more heavily enforced between players this fall. That of course brought up the Horns down hand sign getting flashed as the most notable way to enforce this penalty.

Most fans of any team around the Big 12, even those in the Longhorns camp, likely don’t feel that the Horns down hand sign should be a penalty by itself. That is the case likely even if the Horns down is shown to a Longhorns player.

Anyhow, we’ll have to wait until Texas and Oklahoma actually meet on the gridiron to see now new head coach Steve Sarkisian will be able to stack up against head coach Lincoln Riley. Former Texas head coach Tom Herman was only able to beat the Sooners once during his four years with the program.

Texas finished up last season with a record of 7-3 (5-3 Big 12) under the direction of the former head coach Herman. And Texas and Oklahoma are set to face each other in the annual Red River Rivalry Game in Dallas on Oct. 9.
