Texas football could make the ‘most sense’ for QB Arch Manning
The quarterback prospect that is the hot commodity for the 2023 Texas football recruiting class (along with just about every other top program around the college football landscape) is the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning. Texas had Manning on campus for an unofficial visit last month, on that big weekend where well over a dozen top 2023 prospects were on the Forty Acres.
It appears that new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns are really finding some traction with Manning. At the moment, Texas is likely part of a group of six or seven frontrunners early on in the recruitment of Manning. But there will be a long way to go before he’s likely ready to make a decision.
Establishing this early connection with Manning should do nothing but help Sark and the Longhorns’ chances of eventually landing his commitment, though. Texas really has gone all in to prioritize the recruitment of Manning over any other 2023 quarterback prospect.

With the five-star Los Alamitos (CA) quarterback Malachi Nelson set to announce his decision over the weekend, there are really just two viable prospects at the position that Texas has offered thus far. Four-star William Amos Hough (NC) quarterback Tad Hudson and Manning are the two quarterback prospects that Texas has offered that don’t have decision dates set yet.
As Texas has continued to harp on the recruitment of Manning, it looks like Sark and this staff keep heading in the right direction with the uber-talented Louisiana native. According to a report from Horns247 (paid content) on July 16, Texas is a school that could be the best fit and make the most sense for Manning when it’s all said and done.
This Horns247 piece tabbed the offensive system and proximity to home as the top reasons why Manning could wind up eventually picking the Longhorns over other top competing schools like the Clemson Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide.
Texas had new quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee as the primary recruiter pursuing Manning for a good while now. Milwee seems to have a solid foundation formed in this connection with Manning, so we should expect his good work to continue in this recruitment.
Milwee was also one of the top recruiters for the Longhorns going after the four-star 2022 quarterback commit Maalik Murphy. It’s starting to look like Milwee is doing some very effective work for the Longhorns at the quarterback position on the recruiting trail.
Manning would be about the best way for the Longhorns to start off the 2023 class. He ranks as the nation’s No. 2 2023 high school prospect, and the top overall quarterback and prospect out of Louisiana (247Sports Composite).
