Texas Basketball: 3 players that beneift most from addition of Marcus Carr
New head coach Chris Beard and the Texas basketball program continued to light the college hoops landscape on fire this weekend. The Texas men’s hoops program got the 2022 recruiting class off and running on the afternoon of July 17, landing a commitment from the elite five-star iSchool Entrepreneurial Academy point guard Arterio Morris.
But what really did it in for Beard and the Longhorns over the weekend was getting a commitment out of the NCAA Transfer Portal from the former standout junior Minnesota Golden Gophers and Pitt Panthers point guard Marcus Carr. Texas did a fantastic job in the transfer portal this offseason.
In a matter of just three and a half months since he was first hired as head coach, Beard has completely transformed the roster and put this team in contention for a potential Final Four run next season. Landing a commitment from Carr out of the transfer portal feels like the puzzle is about complete to reshift the rotation in Beard’s liking this summer.

Texas now looks like it has a roster ready to get a top-five or 10 spot in the preseason polls. If Beard and the Longhorns can execute with all of this newfound talent on hand at the outset of next season, this will look like one of the best head coaching hires in program history right away.
But we do need to calm the hype train a little bit to reflect and analyze how this Longhorns team will actually shake out next season. A good point to reflect on now is which Longhorns players could benefit most from the addition of the former All-Big Ten point guard Carr to the rotation.
