Texas Football: CBS says Steve Sarkisian’s job is ‘safe and secure’ in 2021
There is talk that, right away, new head coach Steve Sarkisian is going to have high expectations with the Texas football program. Given a talented and deep roster with some proven players already in the mix, Texas is going to have the ability to be one of the two or three best teams in the Big 12 right out of the gates under Sark’s direction.
Texas has a good enough team to at least finish among the top three or four teams in the Big 12 this year. And it’s not totally up to Sark to make this entire program run at peak efficiency less than one year after he was hired to be the next head coach.
According to a piece released by CBS Sports this week, the hot seat on Sark won’t be heating up right away. And that’s a good thing, as it would not be fair or connotative to future and timely success for the Longhorns if there was a hot seat indicator placed on Sark right away this fall.
Hot seat should not really be a thing for Texas football HC Steve Sarkisian in 2021
Sark got the rating of a “1” on a scale of 0-5 in this CBS Sports piece, which shows a lower hot seat indication heading into the fall. The higher the score from 0-5 in this CBS Sports article, the hotter seat a head coach is sitting on this fall.
The “1” rating in this piece from CBS Sports means that Sark’s job is “safe and secure” for now. And if he has a successful 2021 season by most considerations, that rating should keep entering next season.
We shouldn’t realistically expect Sark to be able to come out and right away win the Big 12 with the Longhorns. If he does, that is obviously great and an added bonus, but it’s not something that is realistic to hold him to in his first year on the Forty Acres.
Former Texas head coach Tom Herman had high expectations right away, but he peaked in his second year at the helm. The 2017 season, also Herman’s first with the program, was his worst in terms of success in the win column.
We’ll see if the same holds true for Sark this year.
Texas is set to open up the regular season slate at home at DKR on Sep. 4 against Louisiana. That will be one of two big tests for Sark and the Longhorns during the non-conference slate. The second comes the following weekend on the road against the longtime rival Arkansas Razorbacks.
