The last two names up on the list would be bigger impact additions to the frontcourt unit on the bench if Beard and the Longhorns could wind up getting commitments out of one of them. And the next name up on the list could bring fresh legs and proven production off the bench to the Forty Acres.

In fact, the former UCF Knights and George Washington Colonials 6-foot-11 and 240-pound redshirt junior center Collin Smith could be one of the most appealing names at this position left in the portal at this point of the offseason. Smith opted out of last season due to health reasons in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

But Smith should be back this season, likely at a destination other than UCF. He put his name in the transfer portal back in spring and has yet to find his next landing spot.

If Smith were to return to the college hoops ranks with a program like Texas, it would come with the expectation that he would be coming off the bench initially. Considering he would be joining a frontcourt unit that also features star junior center Tre Mitchell, junior power forward Dylan Disu, and even the senior forward pairing of Timmy Allen and Christian Bishop, it will be difficult for Smith to get into the starting unit.

It would be invaluable, though, for Texas to have the type of experience and depth that Smith could bring to the table for this frontcourt unit. He had some solid runs both with UCF and George Washington. During the 2019-20 season with the Knights, he averaged a career-best 12.6 points per game, 6.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.6 blocks.
