With the dead period set to wrap up within the next week and a half, it won’t be long before top targets of the 2022 and 2023 Texas football recruiting classes will be back on campus for visits. The final weekend of July will see visits resume once again on the Forty Acres. And that could be a time for new head coach Steve Sarkisian to continue his good work on the recruiting trail.

The dead period was very good to Sark and the Longhorns 2022 class thus far. Since the start of the dead period more than two weeks ago, Texas has picked up four commitments in the 2022 class, three of which came from blue-chip prospects.

More positive results could be on the way for Texas with visits resuming again soon.

And the list of key visitors for that final weekend of July is already starting to pile up. One important new visitor was added to the list to start out this week that could be big for Texas moving forward.

Five-star Duncanville defensive lineman/edge rusher Omari Abor is reportedly (per Horns247, paid content) set to visit Texas on July 30, potentially with fellow five-star Texas native and top-ranked linebacker Harold Perkins.

5-Star Omari Abor set to be one of the top targets on campus in July for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class

As one of the initial offers that was sent out among targets of the Longhorns 2022 class, it looked like some rival schools on the recruiting trail had all of the momentum with Abor. In fact, it felt like Texas had fallen behind four or five of the frontrunners in the race to land Abor’s commitment completely since the spring.

Texas was not one of the four schools that got an official visit from Abor last month. And it was not one of the two schools that got an unofficial visit with him back in April.

The schools that he has visited in some regard since April include the Alabama Crimson Tide, Oklahoma Sooners, LSU Tigers, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Texas A&M Aggies.

This might be the in that Texas is looking for to get back firmly in the race for Abor. It will be big for new co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Pete Kwiatkowski and special teams coordinator Jeff Banks to get Abor on campus for a visit in the next couple of weeks.

The 6-foot-4 and 240-pound defensive lineman could be one of the highest-rated prospects in the Longhorns 2022 class. Granted, Texas has a long way to go with him to get to that point.

Abor ranks as the nation’s No. 23 2022 high school prospect, No. 5 defensive lineman, and No. 6 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 11 high school prospect, No. 4 defensive lineman, and No. 3 prospect out of Texas.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 7 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind Oklahoma. Texas is now up to 15 commits in the 2022 class, with the most recent coming from four-star Denton-Ryan safety Austin Jordan.
