Oklahoma

Let’s just go ahead and knock this one out of the way.

Oklahoma is the other team that is reportedly in these talks with the SEC to test the waters to potentially leave the Big 12. It’s clear that the two biggest powers, by a good margin in the Big 12 are Oklahoma and Texas. And they would likely be the first two teams that another power conference like the SEC would want to take.

Pretty much any way you look at conference realignment, the powers that be would have to take a package deal of Oklahoma and Texas. Leaving Oklahoma behind just would not be the best idea in this type of conversation.

Oklahoma is a regional team that could compete right away in the SEC. They could form back geographically relevant rivalries with the likes of the Arkansas Razorbacks, Mizzou Tigers, and Texas A&M Aggies. That would also help to restore three former Big 12 matchups with Texas, Oklahoma, Mizzou, and Texas A&M, all back in the same conference.

There’s really not much to say here since Oklahoma is the type that is in this reported conversation with Texas to see what leaving the Big 12 for the SEC could look like. It’s a no-brainer that the SEC should want Oklahoma if they get Texas to keep it all balanced.

The other teams that would join into this conversation would be the real question mark for the SEC, along with Texas and Oklahoma.
