Mississippi State

There are really three buckets that the different programs could fall into in terms of those that would hate the Longhorns and Sooners joining the SEC. And we’re talking about those programs that are currently in the SEC.

The first bucket of those that would hate this situation would be those that already have a tough time treading water in the challenging SEC year in and year out on the gridiron and on the recruiting trail. That’s a bucket that the Mississippi State Bulldogs would fall into. Mississippi State is not one of the traditional powers in the SEC.

And while Mississippi State put up a very solid fight in the SEC West in the past 15 years or so, they don’t have the same level of resources as programs like the Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU Tigers, Auburn Tigers, etc., do. You could even consider Mississippi State’s in-state rival the Ole Miss Rebels as a school that falls into this bucket.

If division realignment meant that Mississippi State had to face Texas and Oklahoma along with the current SEC West gauntlet (or some subset of it), it definitely would not benefit this program. It also likely wouldn’t help the already incredible uphill battle that the Bulldogs fight to stay afloat on the recruiting trail in the SEC.
