A good portion of the initial commitments for both current head coach Steve Sarkisian and former head coach Tom Herman in the 2022 Texas football recruiting class were both at risk of decommitting at some point. And while a decommitment is certainly possible from almost anyone during this volatile recruiting cycle, those initial prospects for each head coach in the 2022 class.

And the latest commit in the Longhorns 2022 class that could be a threat to re-open his recruitment in the near future is four-star Memorial cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau. At this point, Guilbeau is actually the longest commit in the 2022 class. He was one of the first three commits in the mix originally for Herman along with four-star wide receiver Phaizon Wilson and five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers.

Now that the 2022 class is starting to pick up some steam with newer commits under the Sark coaching regime, Guilbeau is getting pushed by other schools to explore his other options. But this is not a new push, though, as Guilbeau got a lot of attention during visit season last month from competing schools on the recruiting trail.

According to a report from Horns247 on July 20 (paid content), there is an increased likelihood that Guilbeau could re-open his recruitment and consider other options in the coming weeks. The push is greater from competing programs vying to flip Guilbeau of late.

Just last month, Guilbeau took unofficial visits with the likes of the TCU Horned Frogs and Texas A&M Aggies. He’s also received more than five offers since his original commitment to Texas back on Sep. 19, 2020.

Texas A&M and TCU could be two of the programs to watch in the push to flip the commitment of Guilbeau. The Alabama Crimson Tide might also be one to watch in the near future in this push with the blue-chip corner.

Alabama recently hired former Texas cornerbacks coach Jay Valai, who was the primary recruiter on Guilbeau when he was still employed with the Longhorns. That relationship could be key moving forward in pursuit of Guilbeau.

While all this noise isn’t great for Sark and the Longhorns, it doesn’t mean that the commitment of Guilbeau is lost. The Texas coaching staff will continue to fight the battle to keep one of the more highly touted recruits in the 2022 class in the mix through the Early Signing Period.
