Kansas State

A school that gets a lot of momentum out of its football program, and really only that in terms of athletics, is Kansas State University. The Kansas State Wildcats do have some good years in men’s basketball, but it’s definitely not a Big 12 and/or national power by any means.

The football program is also rarely a national power under a head coach not named Bill Snyder. And in the post-Snyder era in Manhattan, Kansas State could find it rough to find traction if Texas and Oklahoma aren’t anchoring down the brand of the Big 12.

The viability of another conference wanting to take on Kansas State, without the package deal with the in-state rival Kansas Jayhawks is pretty slim. Kansas State would likely not be any other conference’s first choice out of Big 12 schools to take in.

Snyder was the head coach that led the Kansas State football program to prominence. But it’s going to be hard for the current head coach, Chris Klieman, to keep it there over the long haul without the resources or recruiting of a usual decent football program.

Snyder has his name on the stadium, but that legacy likely won’t do too much to make Kansas State a valuable target and commodity in the conference realignment conversation.
