The most recent detrimental news to hit the 2022 Texas football recruiting class came this week in the form of a decommitment from the talented four-star Memorial cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau. Guilbeau was technically the first commit in the 2022 class that was remaining in the mix for new head coach Steve Sarkisian until a few days ago.

Guilbeau was one of the original three commits in the Longhorns 2022 class, along with five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers and four-star wide receiver Phaizon Wilson. He originally committed to Texas back on Sep. 19, 2020. And he remained committed to the Longhorns for a good while.

But the pressure started to ramp up on the Longhorns coaching staff since the start of visit season last month with multiple programs pursuing Guilbeau. He took noted visits with the Texas A&M Aggies and TCU Horned Frogs last month.

Announcing on his Twitter timeline late in the night of July 21, he would be decommitting from Texas, Guilbeau officially re-opened his recruitment heading into the weekend. But the writing is on the wall now of where he could be headed next.

The latest of the 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions now has Guilbeau landing with TCU over Texas and the rest of the field. And the latest pick in from the Rivals FutureCast projects the commitment of Guilbeau to land with TCU.

Guilbeau is the first decommit for the Longhorns 2022 class since five-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart back in March. And it does look like Texas could still be in play for Guilbeau, but this story was written before when the Horned Frogs have this much momentum with a Texas target.

This feels a lot like when Texas lost a commitment from four-star wide receiver, Quentin Johnston, ahead of the Early Signing Period with the 2020 recruiting class. Johnston wound up flipping to and signing with the Horned Frogs. He’s now one of the most productive TCU wideouts in 2021.

The final official visit that Guilbeau took last month came with the Longhorns, specifically back on June 25. Getting a visit with Guilbeau this fall could increase the chances that Texas is able to get him back in the 2022 class, but there’s no guarantee of that of course.

Following the decommitment of Guilbeau, Texas is now down to 14 commits in the 2022 class. According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 10 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners.
