The talk is ongoing this weekend with it looking like a certainty that the Texas football program is headed for the SEC with the Oklahoma Sooners. That means that the decade-long dormant rivalry in the Lone Star Showdown with the Texas A&M Aggies could soon be starting back up again. And that clearly has Aggies feeling some type of way.

Texas A&M does finally start to seem to be accepting the fate of them now with Texas and Oklahoma very likely headed for the SEC. But it was mostly the Texas A&M administration, boosters, and regents, that were sounding scared of the prospect of the Longhorns and Sooners making the move from the Big 12 to the SEC.

There are some more confident approaches coming from the current Aggies football players on social media this weekend. Rising senior Texas A&M safety and former blue-chip recruit Leon O’Neal Jr. took to his Twitter timeline on the evening of July 23 to declare essentially that the Aggies are still disrespected and that he is not afraid in the slightest to face the Longhorns when the move to the SEC is official.

O’Neal Jr. specifically mentioned that Texas A&M “finished #4 in the country” and that it “dominated the SEC schedule (9-1)”. Namely, he said “now tell me who the hell is scared” and that we should “stop acting confused like our foundation isn’t strong”.

He took a pretty aggressive stance on this response to the news that Texas and Oklahoma will likely be making the move from the Big 12 to the SEC. And that has to sound good for the Aggies’ faithful to hear some type of confidence coming from someone associated with the football program.

Nonetheless, it is good for college football as a whole that the Lone Star Showdown is soon to return. Texas and Texas A&M form one of the better rivalries in the entire country, and the last time the two teams met on the gridiron was back in 2011.

O’Neal Jr. is projected to be one of the Aggies’ starters this fall in the defensive backfield. He’s registered just north of 100 career combined tackles, seven tackles for loss, four interceptions, and seven pass breakups.
