Kansas

Since this list is comprised of just the least appealing football programs in the Big 12, the Kansas Jayhawks are an easy choice. If you include academics, geographic proximity, and namely the men’s basketball program, then Kansas is much more appealing to other power conferences.

But it’s hard to say that the Jayhawks aren’t one or two of the biggest doormats of any of the current Power Five conference football programs in the entire country. Kansas was pretty bad under each of the past two coaching regimes. And matters got even worse this offseason for former head coach Les Miles following the LSU Tigers investigation and his subsequent dismissal from Kansas.

Kansas is hoping to right the ship with former Buffalo Bulls head coach Lance Leipold leading the way. But this will be a rebuilding project that could take years to get together. And if Kansas is to make the move to a conference like the Big Ten or ACC in this round of conference realignment, then rebuilding in football could be an even more challenging project for Leipold.

Purely in terms of football, absolutely no power conference would want anything to do with the Jayhawks. The last time this program even made a bowl game was 2008 under former head coach Mark Mangino. In the past decade, the most wins that the Jayhawks had in one season is three, and there have also been two winless campaigns along the way.

Kansas football is really bad, and everyone knows it. It’s a really good thing that Kansas has basketball. Think the Big Ten for Kansas if the Big 12 does dissolve in the near term.
