With the move out of the Big 12 becoming official for the likes of the Texas basketball program (along with other Longhorn sports of course) and the Oklahoma Sooners to the SEC on the morning of July 26, it looks like one conference could soon be folding. The Big 12 now looks to be near collapse, with even the prospect of one school leaving spelling doom for the conference.

The Texas men’s hoops program is specifically referenced here since the focus of this piece will be on which Big 12 programs could be worst off if the conference does fold soon. There are a few worth noting that could actually benefit from this move, but it’s hard to gauge how that will exactly play out at the moment.

If the Big 12 does hold pat through Texas and Oklahoma leaving for the SEC, the cost to the two schools will be pretty great. But it feels like the odds right now are in favor of the conference folding over it staying alive.

Which programs in the Big 12 could feel the hurt after Texas basketball and OU leave?

It’s hard to tell exactly what will happen to the Big 12 at the moment. Some programs have more on the line by sticking around than trying to go elsewhere. And the programs that have a plethora of other options for where to go next among the power conferences will be more likely to leave.

With the Longhorns and Sooners set to leave the Big 12, what particular men’s hoops programs in the conference will be hurt the most? Here’s a look into three that stick out in this regard.
