The buzz around the college sports landscape continues to be the potential move from the Big 12 to the SEC for the likes of the Texas football program and the Oklahoma Sooners this week. Texas and Oklahoma have already informed the Big 12 of the intention to leave this week, and formally applied for membership to the SEC.

With that in mind, there’s some big names around the college football landscape throwing opinions into this situation. One that was sure to make headlines amid this discussion came from the former Heisman Trophy winner and star Texas A&M Aggies quarterback Johnny Manziel.

Manziel essentially said on the matter that it’s time for Texas A&M to accept this reality of the Lone Star Showdown returning to the college sports landscape. He seemed content with the move of Texas and Oklahoma from the Big 12 to the SEC.

But Manziel also said that he felt like the Aggies still have the edge in the SEC over Texas and Oklahoma at the outset, citing the previous decade or so that the program played in that conference since leaving the Big 12.

What was even more noteworthy about Manziel’s statements on the matter of Texas and Oklahoma joining the SEC was the fact that he said that Texas A&M needs to just “sack up” in preparation for facing the Longhorns. It does seem like Texas A&M as an entire school/fan base is starting to become more settled with the fact that the Lone Star Showdown is returning to the college sports landscape.

If Manziel has a similar attitude to most Aggies fans and players about Texas and Oklahoma joining the SEC, then it should make for that much more of an entertaining game the next time that these two teams do meet on the gridiron. And it appears that could happen much sooner than originally anticipated.

Texas and Oklahoma need to get through the process of admittance into the SEC, and then get through what is sure to be some interesting legal and financial battles in the coming months.

Manziel never got to face the Longhorns during his time in College Station. His first year playing for Texas A&M was also the first for that program playing in the SEC. But there appears to be a new generation of Aggies that will see the field against Texas in the Lone Star Showdown once again soon.
