LSU

The last spot on this list really was a toss-up between the likes of the Lone Star Showdown rival Texas A&M and the 2019 National Champions LSU Tigers. But head coach Ed Orgeron and LSU could be hit with a much bigger challenge to make headway at or near the top of the SEC standings with Texas and Oklahoma joining the mix.

Oklahoma could pose a bigger threat to LSU’s yearly quest to contend for an SEC Championship right away. But if Texas can find longevity over the next half-decade or so in the SEC, that could play to the detriment of the Tigers.

Orgeron had LSU charted on the right course up until last season. And LSU had one of the most tumultuous seasons of any around the college football landscape last fall, thanks to a plethora of opt outs, inexperienced youth, and injuries. Still, LSU finished last fall on a high note, proving that Orgeron has a lot left in the tank for this program.

It’s very likely that Texas, Oklahoma, and LSU, all wind up playing in the same division/pod together in whichever way the SEC realigns itself in the next couple of years. It would be fun to see the quad of Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma, and LSU, in the same pod/division too.

LSU is an athletic program that is competitive in most sports, and adding the likes of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC won’t change that. It’s just the path gets even muddier for LSU to contend for titles in sports like football and baseball with Texas and Oklahoma potentially playing in even the same division as them.
