2. Houston

About the best option for the Big 12 in the conference expansion conversation within the state of Texas is the Houston Cougars. Between an extremely strong basketball program, the big Houston market, and the seamless geographic fit, there’s a lot of reason to believe that the Cougars would be one of the first calls that this conference would make for expansion.

Houston also has more than enough resources, at least compared to the rest of the Group of Five programs out there, to get the football program back up to a respectable level. This football program has a pretty strong tradition of success all things considered.

A versatile athletic program and some real TV and recruiting benefits would be just a few of the obvious reasons why the Big 12 should add Houston without a doubt in conference realignment.

1. BYU

While Houston is a really good option for the Big 12 to add to the mix in the conference realignment conversation, the first call the administration should make is definitely to the BYU Cougars. Considering we’re not really thinking that the Big 12 has a shot to get any other Power Five programs from other conferences, BYU could be the best option to help salvage whatever reputation and standing that remains.

Next. SEC teams that should be fearful of Texas, OU joining. dark

BYU has a good tradition of success in multiple sports, namely football and basketball. And the school could make sense for the Big 12 geographically, especially if this conference were to expand into a north and a south division. BYU and Boise State could form one of the more intriguing Big 12 conference rivalries if this expansion were to happen.
