Big 12 Football: 3 schools AAC would love to add the most
Oklahoma State
Depending on what perspective you’re looking at this debate from, the Oklahoma State Cowboys could be the most valuable prize for any other conference to add in the midst of this potential race to pick off the eight remaining schools from the Big 12. Oklahoma State had to be upset about its longtime in-state rival Oklahoma leaving for another conference without them.
Oklahoma used to be a presumed package deal with Oklahoma State. But that is the case no longer.
Texas and Oklahoma was a much more potent package deal for the SEC than the Oklahoma schools as a duo. It’s just unfortunate for the Pokes that it had to swing this way.
The Oklahoma State football program might be the best left in the Big 12 at this point, and sustainability is likely to be present for a good while. Oklahoma State is one of the most resourceful football programs remaining in the Big 12, with a big name head coach in the always-entertaining Mike Gundy.
In all but one of the years under Gundy as head coach, the Pokes have made a bowl game. And Gundy’s record in bowl games now sits at 10-5. The last time that Oklahoma State did not have a winning record was 2005.
There would be a lot to like for the AAC about the success and sustainability of the Oklahoma State football program. And once the men’s basketball program gets off sanctions, then it would be one of the more valuable in that conference.
That’s not to mention some very potent baseball, women’s basketball, wrestling, golf, etc. programs.
