Texas football set to get huge visit from 4-Star DL Quency Wiggins
Scheduling visits for some of the top remaining targets of the 2022 Texas football recruiting class is something that takes center stage at this point of the offseason. With on-campus visits well a part of the college football recruiting landscape once again, new head coach Steve Sarkisian will have a clear shot to make the right impression with top targets of his 2022 and 2023 classes.
Sark and the Longhorns found some success on the recruiting trail to start rounding out the 2022 class of late. Texas landed two commitments in the last week alone between four-star Texas High edge rusher Derrick Brown and three-star Mater Dei linebacker Eoghan Kerry.
With likely just four or five spots to fill out remaining in the 2022 class at this point, Texas has to be strategic with how each is used. But definitely one of the key remaining uncommitted targets is the four-star Madison Prep Academy (LA) defensive lineman Quency Wiggins.
According to a report from Horns247 on Aug. 4 (paid content), Texas is expecting the Louisiana native Wiggins for a visit this fall. During the pool party/BBQ that Texas hosted last weekend for a number of top prospects for the 2022 and 2023 classes, Wiggins was on campus for an unofficial visit.
Texas football in line for an official visit from 4-Star DL Quency Wiggins
But this report from Horns247 this week indicates that Wiggins is planning for an official visit with the Longhorns this fall. There is no date that is officially on the books yet, but that is good news for the way that Texas is trending in pursuit of his commitment.
Wiggins also mentioned in this piece that his recruitment is essentially wide open. It was figured of late that the LSU Tigers were the frontrunner to land Wiggins, but that might not be the case anymore.
Texas appears to be in a good position with Wiggins at the moment, especially after this latest unofficial visit last weekend.
There looks to be a group of about four or five schools that could be considered frontrunners in the race to land a commitment from Wiggins. Texas is a part of that group which also namely features the Florida Gators, Alabama Crimson Tide, and LSU.
Texas has new defensive line coach Bo Davis as the primary recruiter after Wiggins. He’s done well in the recruitment of Wiggins since Texas sent him a scholarship offer back in April. Texas was one of the more recent additions to Wiggins’ offer sheet.
Wiggins is one of the higher-rated uncommitted defensive linemen remaining at this point that Texas is going after. He ranks as the nation’s No. 101 2022 high school prospect, No. 17 defensive lineman, and No. 7 prospect out of Louisiana (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 98 high school prospect, No. 15 defensive lineman, and No. 6 prospect out of Louisiana.
Texas is set to compete to have one of the top classes both in the Big 12 and the entire country entering the fall. But there are some critical visits that will be coming up for Texas to get right, namely with five-star prospects like offensive lineman Devon Campbell and cornerback Denver Harris.
