Texas Football: 3 Big 12 foes bound to make it personal with the Horns
In what could be the last year for the Texas football program actually competing in the Big 12, we could see some fireworks in conference play this fall. With Texas and the Oklahoma Sooners leaving the Big 12 for the SEC shortly, the eight remaining schools left in this conference are likely to have an increased level of motivation this fall.
Texas and Oklahoma will obviously still be competing in the Big 12 this fall, which will make for some awkward in-conference games. There will still be the usual rivalries that the two schools hold, namely Bedlam for the Sooners against the Oklahoma State Cowboys, and hopefully a chance for the Longhorns to avenge an upsetting loss last fall against the TCU Horned Frogs.

But there’s not a whole lot that Texas and Oklahoma will be leaving behind in the Big 12, especially considering what lies ahead in the greener pastures of the SEC. That’s largely why this move happened in the first place for Texas and Oklahoma to go to the SEC.
We don’t know yet, though, when the Longhorns and Sooners will be officially competing in the SEC. It could be as soon as 2022, or as late as 2025. Although, it’s hard to imagine that these two schools will remain in the Big 12 through the 2024 season.
