Texas Football: 3 Big 12 foes bound to make it personal with the Horns
Baylor
This will be all about proving a point for a lot of the remaining Big 12 schools, to try to send the Longhorns and Sooners out on the wrong foot. In a weird way, the remaining eight Big 12 schools (from their perspective) would be rounding out the time for Texas and Oklahoma in the conference on a high note by those two schools leaving on the wrong foot (from their perspective).
And that’s likely the type of mindset that head coach Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears will bring to the table in their meeting with both the Longhorns and the Sooners. But it seems like there’s an added chip on Baylor’s shoulder to beat Texas compared to Oklahoma. The rivalry definitely matters more to Baylor against Texas than against Oklahoma.
Texas and Baylor are set to meet on the gridiron on Oct. 30 at McLane Stadium in Waco. Baylor knowing that its potential final Big 12 meeting with Texas comes at home will add even more juice to that environment at McLane Stadium. And the fact that is also Halloweekend makes it even more energetic for the Bears.
Baylor and Texas went back and forth in this conference rivalry in the past six years. Texas won last year’s meeting by a double-digit margin at DKR. But Baylor had some good runs against the Longhorns too.
In his second year at the helm as head coach, former LSU Tigers defensive coordinator Aranda will be looking to add a marquee win to his resume that also energizes this fan base. And what better chance for the Bears to notch that marquee win than against Texas on Halloweekend.
