It was mentioned earlier on Aug. 9 that Texas was seeing a bigger role for the former four-star recruit and sophomore wide receiver Kelvontay Dixon in some of the early pads drills and non-contact drills in practice in fall camp. Given some of the roster turnover in the receiving corps, and the new scheme under Sark, a new opportunity has emerged for Dixon.

But so much of the playing time that Dixon gets this fall will be dependent on how healthy the former highly touted four-star recruit and redshirt freshman wideout Troy Omeire is during the regular season. Omeire is likely to get more first-team reps in fall camp in one of the starting spots on the outside if his knee comes along nicely.

Dixon also saw his cousin, and former Texas junior running back Keaontay Ingram, enter the transfer portal last offseason. Ingram looked to be out the door since the end of the days for this program under former head coach Tom Herman, but it surely is more motivation for Dixon to take his talents elsewhere now that his cousin is gone.

Ingram joined head coach Clay Helton and the USC Trojans out of the portal during the offseason. And Dixon could be the next to transfer for the Longhorns if he doesn’t get more looks in the passing game this fall.

If Dixon does get a significant backup role, or some starting reps in game action this fall, then watch out for this narrative to change in a hurry, though.
