Texas Football: Should the Longhorns try to flip 4-Star Bryce Anderson?
One of the bigger misses for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class of late came in the form of the talented four-star West Brook (TX) safety Bryce Anderson committing to the rival Texas A&M Aggies back on Aug. 6. The commitment of Anderson was figured to be close to in the bag for Texas and new head coach Steve Sarkisian during the resumption of visit season two months ago.
A late rally from head coach Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies wound up helping them win over Anderson’s commitment in the end.
But losing this commitment from Anderson is not the end of the world for the Longhorns. It was presumed that Texas could be losing at least some momentum with Anderson when the commitment of four-star safety Austin Jordan arrived last month over the Oklahoma Sooners and LSU Tigers.
Some Longhorns fans are likely asking the question; is it worth Sark and his staff trying to fight to flip the commitment of Anderson?
Question is viable if Texas football should try to flip 4-Star S Bryce Anderson?
The answer to that question is likely no. If Texas can hang onto the commitments of four-star Aledo safety Bryan Allen Jr. and Jordan through the Early Signing Period, then the 2022 class is good at this position. If a situation does emerge where Texas loses one of those commitments, then flipping Anderson would be a route worth exploring.
Yet, the odds of Texas actually flipping Anderson look slim at this point. Although Texas A&M had a late rally to land his commitment in the first place, he looks pretty locked into the Aggies.
It does hurt that Sark and the Longhorns missed out on Anderson, but it is not the end of the world. Texas has a strong 2022 class in place, and there are more important top targets out there for this staff. Five-star Bowie offensive guard Devon Campbell and five-star North Shore cornerback Denver Harris are more important at the moment than flipping Anderson.
Anderson was one of the higher-rated targets that the Longhorns had remaining during the summer months to go after. He ranks as the nation’s No. 48 2022 high school prospect, No. 3 safety, and No. 12 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 64 high school prospect, No. 6 safety, and No. 13 prospect out of Texas.
Last weekend, Anderson announced his commitment to Texas A&M over offers from Texas and more than 40 other schools. Some of the other notable schools on his offer sheet were the Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU, Auburn Tigers, Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, Michigan Wolverines, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oklahoma, Oregon Ducks, Stanford Cardinal, USC Trojans, and Tennessee Volunteers.
Texas now has 17 commits in the 2022 class after landing a pledge from three-star Warren Easton (LA) cornerback Ronald Lewis on Aug. 5. Allen Jr. is now the highest-rated commit in the Longhorns 2022 class.
