Kansas

Speaking of traditional blue bloods, legendary and newly tenured head coach Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks are definitely the most profitable men’s hoops program in the Big 12. Kansas was always the most profitable men’s hoops program. Texas was often the second most profitable men’s hoops program in the Big 12, but still nowhere close to the Jayhawks.

Although Baylor has a more recent National Championship than Kansas, this is still likely the more appealing program of the two. Kansas brings that national television presence and recognizable blue blood brand to the table that Baylor just can’t yet.

And the consistent success that Self and the Jayhawks found on the recruiting trail and on the hardwood makes this a sustainable program over the long haul.

If Kansas does wind up moving to a different power conference in this round of realignment, the Big Ten seems like the choice. The Big Ten and Kansas would likely both welcome this agreement if it does materialize at any point shortly.

Kansas is not an appealing addition by any means in this round of conference realignment from a football perspective. But Self and the Jayhawks are one of the most profitable and recognizable men’s hoops brands in the entire country. Even before his time at Kansas began, the last time that Self finished outside of the final AP Poll was back as the head coach of the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in 1998-99.
