Texas Football: 3 reasons Hudson Card should be the starter
All of the buzz surrounding the Texas football program just weeks ahead of the start of the regular season has to do with the quarterback competition. With sophomore Hudson Card and redshirt junior Casey Thompson duking it out to see who can assume the reigns as the next starting quarterback, we should see a decision come down in the not too distant future from new head coach Steve Sarkisian.
Sark and the Longhorns open up the regular season slate at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Sep. 4 against the Louisiana Ragin-Cajuns. Texas will need to get off to a strong start if Sark and his coaching staff are to settle any of the concerns of the fans base as to what’s to come this fall in Big 12 play.
Although Texas is about to make the move from the Big 12 to the SEC, along with the rival Oklahoma Sooners, this will still be a critical stretch in conference play this fall. Confidence in Sark moving forward on the recruiting trail and with really anyone associated with the Longhorns football program will largely hinge on the results on the field this fall.
Could Hudson Card be the guy at QB for Texas football?
Texas might make a switch in the starting quarterback a couple of times this fall as Sark tries to figure out his new scheme. But with how quick the non-conference schedule ramps up, there’s not much room for error in this decision.
As far as we can tell, Card is now starting to close the gap on the once presumed favorite in Thompson for the starting quarterback gig. Here’s a look into three reasons why Card should be the Week 1 starter for the Longhorns.
