Another rocky stretch at times for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class on the trail during the summer months came about in the past few weeks. The last month and a half or so of the offseason brought very mixed results on the recruiting trail for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and his 2022 class.

While Texas is looking good both in the national class rankings and by way of total numbers in the 2022 class thus far, there are some notable misses that could be costly by the time the Early Signing Period arrives. It seemed like Sark and his new staff could do no wrong for the Longhorns on the recruiting trail back in the winter months.

But after the dust settled and the momentum slowed following the hire of Sark, which came officially back on Jan. 2, the results on the recruiting trail started to slow down. That was true for both the Longhorns 2022 and 2023 classes over the past few months.

Texas still is seeking out the initial commit in the 2023 class following the decommitment of the elite five-star El Campo running back Rueben Owens back on June 17. The 2022 class also had multiple decommitments and key misses since around March.

The top decommitments from the 2022 class to note are five-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart and four-star Memorial cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau. But there’s still a chance that Sark and the Longhorns get those two back in the 2022 class before it’s all said and done for this cycle.

With all of this in mind, here’s a look into four of the biggest flops among missing key 2022 targets for Sark and the Longhorns during the summer months this offseason.
