Texas Football: 4 biggest 2022 recruiting flops of the summer
Bryce Anderson, S
The writing was on the wall in the few weeks leading up to the commitment of the talented four-star West Brook (TX) safety Bryce Anderson to Texas A&M over the Longhorns. Texas was very close to sealing a commitment from Anderson, but the Aggies definitely made a late rally to win this commitment over the in-state rival Longhorns.
Texas missing out on the commitment of Anderson didn’t hurt as much with two other key four-star defensive back commits that sit in the 2022 class. Four-star Aledo safety Bryan Allen Jr. and four-star Denton-Ryan safety/defensive back Austin Jordan are committed in the Longhorns 2022 class, which helps to soften the blow of missing on Anderson at least a little bit.
Yet, Texas is starting to miss out on a good number of top-tier in-state targets for the 2022 class. Hopefully, that will not be a sign of things to come for the 2023 class.
What is important here is for Texas to succeed on the gridiron right away under Sark, giving a clear path forward for any remaining targets of the 2022 class. And then, that opens the door for the 2023 class to find success on the recruiting trail on a more consistent basis.
What Texas is missing out on with Anderson committing to Texas A&M is the nation’s No. 48 2022 high school prospect, No. 3 safety, and No. 12 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).
By the time Anderson announced his commitment on Aug. 6, it was pretty clear that head coach Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies were the favorites to get him. And this could be a really hard commitment for the likes of Gideon and new cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph to flip heading into the fall.
