Texas football is talking to 5-Star Devon Campbell ‘every day’
Of late, there are questions surfacing as to how the 2022 Texas football recruiting class can close down the stretch. We are now roughly four months from the Early Signing Period, which is still a good bit of time to build up the 2022 class.
But it’s clear, with 17 commits in the Longhorns 2022 class now, that there are not many more numbers to add heading into the fall. At this point, it is mostly about new head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff connecting on the top remaining blue-chip prospects ahead of the Early Signing Period.
Or, if there are any remaining top prospects and numbers available in the Longhorns 2022 class after the Early Signing Period but ahead of National Signing Day, that will clearly be something to watch.
A Horns247 report (paid content) this weekend mentioned where Texas stands with potentially one of the top two or three remaining prospects left on the board for this 2022 class. Five-star Bowie offensive lineman Devon Campbell is an extremely crucial prospect for the Longhorns to keep a strong relationship with.
In this Horns247 report, there were a lot of encouraging signs for the Longhorns in pursuit of the commitment of Campbell. That included Campbell noting that, while he had a good relationship formed initially in his recruitment with former Texas offensive line coach Herb Hand, that new offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood had this program in a better spot than ever in his pursuit.
Texas football looking good right now with 5-Star OL Devon Campbell
Flood and the Longhorns seem to be doing really well connecting with Campbell. He even noted that Texas is essentially in contact with him “every day” with this new staff in place. This is the type of connection that the Texas staff needs to form to round out this 2022 class on a high note.
Texas was looking to make up for some bad misses during the 2021 cycle in the trenches with this talented in-state crop of 2022 offensive linemen. Campbell is definitely one of those.
And with the Longhorns already striking out with fellow five-star offensive lineman and Summer Creek product Kelvin Banks, Campbell becomes crucial for this class. Banks committed to the Oregon Ducks last month in a surprise move over Texas and the Texas A&M Aggies.
Moreover, Longhorns fans have to be satisfied with where the coaching staff sits with Campbell at the moment. Texas currently sits in his top five, Flood is doing well as his primary recruiter, and this program still appears to be a frontrunner at this point in time (if there is one).
Campbell would be quite the exclamation mark to the Longhorns 2022 class. He ranks as the nation’s No. 10 2022 high school prospect, top overall interior offensive lineman, and No. 2 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).
Texas did rake in a good number of commitments of late. But the number of blue-chips will need to pick up in the near future. The lone blue-chip commit among offensive linemen in the 2022 class right now is four-star Frisco interior offensive lineman Cole Hutson.
