As more of a sign of the changing times, it is pretty crazy to note that a former commit of the 2022 Texas football recruiting class and five-star Southlake Carroll quarterback Quinn Ewers has undergone an insane saga in the past few weeks. Texas lost the commitment of Ewers roughly a month and a half after he originally gave his pledge to former head coach Tom Herman.

Well before the Longhorns hired new head coach Steve Sarkisian, Ewers was out the door and flipped his commitment to the Ohio State Buckeyes.

But what no one saw coming was Ewers reclassifying to join the Buckeyes with the 2021 signing class instead of 2022. In less than one year after he committed to Ohio State, and decommitted from Texas, Ewers was enrolled in Columbus.

Former Texas football commit Quinn Ewers has already signed two NIL deals

And now, Ewers has reportedly signed two endorsement deals already after enrolling at Ohio State for the 2021 season. It was the passing of NIL by the NCAA this year that allows this to happen in the first place.

Those two deals that Ewers signed were with Sportstars Inc. and Rubicon Talent.

It was only going to be a matter of time before Ewers signed an endorsement deal with the passing of NIL. More could be on the way for one of the biggest incoming freshmen around the college football landscape in the past five years.

This is a signal of what could be to come for some of the top recruits in the country for the next few cycles (and then well into the future). If this is the type of attention Ewers is getting after enrolling at Ohio State, imagine what could happen for the 2023 five-star quarterback recruit Arch Manning.

Texas is seeing this change in the college sports landscape unfold on the recruiting trail as well as with current athletes on campus. The aforementioned point that Ewers is a good example of what’s to come is going to have a future impact on the Longhorns on the recruiting trail.

It was hard to see any of this coming for Ewers at the time when he committed to Texas back in August 2020. He has largely shifted the college sports and football recruiting landscape for good.
