Texas Football: 3 players with stock on the rise after first fall scrimmage
There’s a lot to talk about for the Texas football program after the initial scrimmage in fall camp that went down over the weekend. What seems to be mostly problems and concerns that arose for Texas in the first fall scrimmage has to be digested in bits and pieces. New head coach Steve Sarkisian had a somewhat pessimistic tone about the fall scrimmage last weekend, but harped on a theme of progress.
We shouldn’t expect the Longhorns to click right away in all aspects, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Texas is breaking in a completely new scheme, coaching staff, and a lot of new projected starters, in fall camp. Offense is going to face some hurdles at times to get in rhythm.
The hope is that most of those kinks will be worked out in the couple of weeks remaining in fall camp ahead of the regular season opener on Sep. 4 at home against Louisiana.
Take the bad with the good for Texas football after the first fall scrimmage
Most of the bad news from this initial fall scrimmage came from the lack of rhythm and timing between the quarterbacks and receivers, and some bad drops. Texas also didn’t get the most consistent performance out of the offensive line. No doubt those factors could be problematic, but we’ll have to check on the progress in those areas in the second fall scrimmage.
The good news is that Texas did show out nicely on defense, which was a persistent and sizable issue all throughout Tom Herman’s tenure as head coach. We can also pinpoint some individuals on offense that look to continue to elevate their role this fall.
Here’s a look into three Longhorns players with their stock on the rise following the first fall scrimmage.
