Texas Football: D’Shawn Jamison solidifies exceptional status
Mostly concerns came up for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program following the first scrimmage of fall camp over the weekend. A large portion of the issues that emerged, though, were largely thanks to spotty performances out of the offenses. Texas did have some solid performances on the defensive side of the ball that are worth noting.
Although the Longhorns were missing the standout senior linebacker and former converted safety DeMarvion Overshown in this initial scrimmage in fall camp, the defense still played well by all indications.
One defensive player that reportedly (per Horns247, paid content) really stood out in a big way for the Longhorns in this fall scrimmage over the weekend was the senior cornerback D’Shawn Jamison. The All-Big 12 corner and versatile special teams threat was known to be one of the more proven players Texas has on either side of the ball this year.

But this performance from Jamison goes a long way to further solidify his stud status with this secondary. There were still some discussions being had early in fall camp about who could arise as the top defensive back for the Longhorns. It now looks like there’s a very good chance that could be Jamison.
A big reason why some of the Longhorns quarterbacks could’ve struggled in this fall scrimmage on the afternoon of Aug. 14 could be the play of key defensive backs like Jamison. While the play of sophomore quarterback Hudson Card and redshirt junior Casey Thompson brings some doubt about this team more than one week into fall camp, no one should be doubting what this secondary could bring to the table.
Texas should be very strong at cornerback this fall. Between the proven experience that Jamison and senior Josh Thompson bring to the table, the top two spots look good to go. And Texas has strength in numbers behind those two with emerging underclassmen and ex-blue-chip recruits in Jahdae Barron and Kitan Crawford.
Jamison is going to be one of the most productive, yet underrated, defensive players in the Big 12 this fall if you read the writing on the wall. He is looking to help Texas open up the regular season on Sep. 4 against Louisiana on the right foot.
