A mixed bag of results on the trail of late for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the 2022 Texas football recruiting class could result in an inconsistent set of narratives heading into the fall. Since the conclusion of a revived visit season back in June, Texas has seen a true bout of highs and lows on the recruiting trail, namely for the 2022 class.

Now, Sark and the Longhorns will be looking to close out the 2022 class on a high note. We are now almost exactly four months away from the Early Signing Period. And Texas still has a good number of five-star targets remaining that Sark needs to win over to make this class as successful as possible.

Bad signs loom for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class with a trio of top targets

Texas currently sits at 17 commits in the 2022 class. But there is not a single prospect in this class that is anything close to earning that elusive fifth star. There are top targets out there among the five-stars for this recruiting cycle that will be key for the Longhorns to land down the stretch. Yet, that won’t be an easy feat for Sark and his staff to seal the deal on.

The highest-rated commit at the moment for the Longhorns in the 2022 class is four-star Aledo safety Bryan Allen Jr. In fact, Allen Jr. is the only commit ranked among the top 100 high school prospects in the nation in the 247Sports Composite.

Texas is very likely to get at least one five-star commit in the 2022 class. But there are some leading indicators that some of the top five-star prospects for the Longhorns aren’t trending in their direction heading into the fall.

Here’s a look at three elite 2022 Longhorns targets to worry about heading into the fall.
