The lone former Texas commit on this list is one that also appears to be slipping out of the Longhorns’ grasp of late. Elite five-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart was once committed to the Longhorns 2022 class, but only for a span of roughly one month back in winter.

Stewart joined the 2022 class as part of that insane initial wave of momentum that Sark gained on the recruiting trail in the first couple of months after he was hired to replace Tom Herman as the next Texas head coach.

Moreover, Stewart still looks to have Texas very much in the mix to get his commitment at this point. But the program that looks to be pulling ahead of the rest in the past six or eight weeks is Florida. Head coach Dan Mullen and the Gators have made good progress with Stewart since the conclusion of visit season in June.

Florida and Texas were two of the five schools that got visits from Stewart back in June. But those two schools were the only ones to get an official with Stewart. The other three that he took unofficials with two months ago were the Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU, and Texas A&M.

While some of the competing schools with Texas and Florida could very much jump into the mix with Stewart in the coming weeks and month, these two schools are the likely frontrunners at the moment. Texas needs to get a good visit weekend with Stewart on the books for the fall before the Gators gain too much ground in his recruitment.
