Texas Football: 3 elite 2022 targets to worry about heading into the fall

The most important prospect for the Longhorns to get a commitment from heading into the fall in the 2022 class likely falls down to a list of three targets. The first is the final name on this list and the elite five-star North Shore cornerback Denver Harris. The other two consists of the aforementioned Stewart and five-star Bowie offensive lineman Devon Campbell.

Getting commitments from two of those three in the 2022 class, either before National Signing Day or the Early Signing Period, would have to be considered a rousing success for Sark and the Longhorns.

Yet, Texas now even appears to be losing ground with the Houston-area product Harris. As one of the most talented cornerbacks in this recruiting cycle, Harris looked like a must-get at one point for the Longhorns. Losing his commitment would still be a severe hit and detrimental to the future of this secondary if he winds up going with someone like Alabama or LSU.

The three schools that Texas has to worry about in pursuit of Harris are Texas A&M, Alabama, and LSU. But it’s the middle of those three schools that Texas really needs to pay close attention to. Alabama appears to be gaining a ton of traction of late with Harris.

When Alabama starts to make progress with a prospect of the stature of Harris, it’s not a good sign for competing schools. And the fact that the two most updated expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions both have Harris landing with Alabama over Texas is not good. The Rivals FutureCast also has most of their analysts and publishers now trending firmly in favor of Harris giving his commitment to Alabama.

Harris could be one of the top prospects for the Longhorns that seems to be getting away from this staff the fastest of late. Alabama is not one to take it lightly when pursuing a prospect like Harris.
