Texas Football: 3 defensive players Kwiatkowski will elevate
DeMarvion Overshown, LB
We should already know that the former elite four-star recruit and converted linebacker DeMarvion Overshown will be one of the best defensive players for the Longhorns this fall. Overshown was definitely one of the most productive players for Texas on defense last season. And that trend will only continue this fall.
Overshown is coming off of a junior campaign where he registered 60 combined tackles, eight tackles for loss, one sack, seven pass breakups, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
It’s going to be difficult for Overshown to improve a whole lot for his stat line this fall compared to what he did last season. He was tremendous for Texas last season, but there are some parts to his game that should be touched up during his senior campaign.
First and foremost, Texas should be able to lower the number of missed tackles that Overshown had in each of the last two seasons. That was definitely one of the weaker points to Overshown’s game of late. He had 25 missed tackles in the last two seasons combined, which is good for a team-high. Now that Texas will have more sure-tacklers up the middle, there will be less of an onus placed on Overshown to shoulder most of the load.
Expect Overshown to still put up the type of production that made him an All-Big 12 performer last season. But where he should improve is with the missed tackles and occasional misreads from the line of scrimmage. Overshown should now become a productive and efficient linebacker that could make him a dark horse to be an All-American this fall.
